The Dental Implant Procedure, Step by Step

Knowing what to expect takes much of the worry out of getting a dental implant. Here is how the process typically works at Paramount Dental.
1. Free consultation and 3D CT scan
Dr. Cheema examines your mouth, reviews your health history and takes a 3D CT scan to measure bone and locate important structures. You leave with a written plan and price.
2. Implant placement
The titanium implant is placed in the jawbone under local anesthesia. Most patients are surprised by how comfortable the visit is and describe mild soreness afterward.
3. Healing and integration
Over the following months, the implant bonds with the bone in a process called osseointegration. A temporary tooth can often be worn during this time.
4. Abutment and final crown
Once healed, an abutment is attached and a custom crown, color-matched to your natural teeth, completes the restoration.
5. Long-term care
Brush, floss and keep regular dental checkups. With good care, implants can last for many years.
